DREAMS ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL

SATURDAY, 2/18/2012

A woman sent me the following dream:

I keep having this recurring dream that I'm graduating high school. It is usually an All-Girls school and there aren’t many students in my graduating class.  My Mom is always there on Graduation Day proudly cheering me on. All my classmates are in their teens but it never seems strange to me that I'm 31. The high school is unlike my actual high school I went to. These are usually Prep Schools with uniforms and dormitories. Everything is so easy for me. I never have any worries, whether it’s social interaction, giving a speech, taking a test, etc. In my last dream, my high school best friend, Jake, was there and we did fun things like explore the school and check out the multitude of books in the library. Overall, I wake up from these dreams happy, but I can’t help but wonder why it’s always a high school setting.

It's always a high school setting because the dream is about the dreamer always being in the process of learning something.

High school is a time for making friends, for becoming educated about the things in life which will get you on track to having a successful future.  High school is about socialization skills:  learning how to get along with others who are different from you, but who are also experiencing the same confusing feelings as you:  jealousy at not getting a better grade than the kid at the next desk; wanting to be popular; wanting to be taller, shorter, skinnier, more muscular, prettier, with longer hair and finer skin or whatever is on the other side of the fence.

In high school, one learns to develop a group-mind, without losing the self.  One learns how to run for school president, or join a club, or become a science freak or language manipulator.  Any inherent gifts a person possesses are revealed during this important time in life.

This woman sees life as an EDUCATION.  Whatever happens to her... whatever challenges arise to make her question herself, or to seek guidance from others... she sees it as something to learn and master.  And the fact that she has a recurring dream about graduating... the inference is that SHE ALWAYS SUCCEEDS IN MASTERING ANY LESSON she experiences and views the process with an open-minded enthusiasm and joy.

There are some people who have recurring dreams about swimming.  That would suggest that these types of people view life as a matter of going through emotional challenges.  Some view life as jumping hurdles.  Or climbing mountains.  Or racing cars.

This woman not only views life as a continuing process of education, she ENJOYS the process, shares it with a friend or two, and even considers exploring her environment and researching sources of knowledge.  Her very attitude guarantees that life becomes relatively easy.  It's easy because of her forever-a-student attitude.  It keeps her mind open to opportunities for growth rather than a series of obstacles to be hurdled, or emotional traumas to be negotiated with great effort.  There are no winners or losers in her life.  There's only experience and growth of knowledge..

It helps that her Mom witnesses, supports and cheers her growth... and that friends are willing to keep her company on her journey.  But the best thing about this dream is that she's ultimately happy, which suggests a very well-adjusted individual, with a healthy and positive outlook for the future.
