ABOUT HAUNTED CASTLES

Mary Lou from Utah emailed me this dream recently:

I had a dream that I was in Europe and heading towards a haunted castle with two of my male best friends. I led us through the mountains and rubble and tough weather and got us to the front gate. We waited and listened for sounds, but we knew it was abandoned. We were scared, but excited. As we went through the front gate, I found coins scattered in a small area. I was excited and collected them all quickly. My friends helped. I looked at the coins carefully, and they were from different countries, continents, cities, eras, materials, and times. I said, "Wow, so many people have been here and left so much behind."

This dream is a prophetic one, letting the Dreamer know a possible event in her future.  Since Mary Lou is from Utah and her dream takes place in Europe, this is significant.   It’s possible that she will have an opportunity to do something challenging which is somewhat different from what she’s used to.  I’m guessing this is an employment situation.  Either she will be asked to move to another state/country, or the work will be somewhat “alien” to her.

Castles are generally viewed as homes for kings/queens in fairy tales.  Mary Lou and her friends, then, are seeking to enter a rarefied domain… one meant only for people of superior heritage, skills or background.  The fact that the castle is haunted suggests that others have done the type of rarefied work she’s being asked to do, but they’ve met with doom, i.e., failure.  They didn’t accomplish their goal and the experience left a tragic “taint” associated with it.  Also, to even get to the castle is challenging… climbing mountains, blocked by rubble (the leftover signs of destruction), and tough weather (challenging environment).  Mary Lou is apparently the leader during this journey.

Nevertheless, she and her two companions reach the castle.  Other people have tried to do this work and have abandoned it.  They’re scared and excited.  They apparently have what it takes to get there… now the question is whether they can get inside and survive whatever danger is inside.  Upon entering the front gate, Mary Lou finds a variety of coins.  Coins are symbolic of wealth… they have purchase power.  Finding coins suggest that Mary Lou and her two friends will be enriched by this experience.  If it is indeed a work experience, either they will receive a higher income than they have in the past, or it could be enrichment in terms of knowledge… learning tricks and skills in their trade which come from other cultures, countries and companies.

One friend, the muscular one, pointed out a large coin with a "joker" symbol on it, like a playing card.  It had a cigarette stain and smoke was rising from it. My eyes widened, "Someone extinguished a cigarette on this!" I touched the surface, "But that was long ago, I can't believe it’s still sending out smoke." I looked up at the castle, afraid again, and said, "Maybe we should turn back." My second friend said, "If you're afraid of being hurt, I'll go in first." I said, "Okay" and followed him in.  Once we were inside, it was a beautifully maintained Court Jester room with elaborate games and pinball machines set up all around with red velvet decorations. There was a video booth, where people could record themselves being funny or watch other people's videos. My two friends started playing games and laughing. I was pleased.  The room’s condition was pristine, so I knew that no one else had reached this room before.  I immediately opened my cell phone and called my mom.  When she answered, I said, "Mom, I made it to the castle.  Get on a plane right now, I want you to see it."

One of the other things Mary Lou’s psyche is telling her is that she won’t be alone in this adventure.  If this is regarding her employment, she will have at least two co-workers who will be working with her and who trust her leadership enough to support her in their joint endeavor.  If this is regarding a personal goal, then she will have two male friends supporting her all the way.  One of them will bring to her attention the fact that someone has been “burnt” badly as a result of trying to fulfill the demands of the castle and failing in the endeavor.  It makes her leery again.  But the 2nd friend/co-worker persuades her he’s willing to take the first step.  That encourages her and she’s right behind him, ready to commit herself to their work.

The Court Jester, while playing the fool, is an integral part of a King’s court.  Playing the fool suggests it’s possible Mary Lou and her friends/co-workers  are being asked to “test” out the workings of the castle… to enter without preconceived notions and experiment with all types of possible scenarios.  Games, pinball machines, video booths… all these suggest an attitude of free play, being in competition, trying to achieve victory.

At this point, Mary Lou and her friends/co-workers are being asked to come up with new ideas, new approaches, new angles of perception in their work.  Ultimately, the trick is to view the experience as play time rather than hard work which could ultimately fail.

The outcome seems positive, since Mary Lou is so happy and excited about it she wants to share it with someone she loves… her mother.  She will accomplish something she will be very proud of.

Happy snoozling, Mary Lou, and hope this dream comes true for you.
