Jennifer
from Utah sent me this dream. As a side
note, her husband passed away several years ago.
I arrive at an
old house, cute and cozy but in need of serious repair. I know it’s my house even though it’s really
nothing like my real house. I go inside
and check out the inside. Most of the
rooms are in disorder, with furniture and things scattered all over the
place. Still I notice that the furniture
isn’t bad, and some of the other things are nice. My husband’s things are set aside in the back
and I think to myself I need to get rid of them because he’s no longer around
to use them.
Most
of you will understand right away that in this dream, the house is a
representation of herself. Whether she realizes it or not, basically, she
is a “cute” and “cozy” kind of person.
At this point in her life, her psyche is telling her that her thoughts
and feelings are in disorder… all the belief systems which make her who she is
in disorder and confusion. In fact, this
is a normal state for someone whose spouse has recently passed away. She is at the point, however, to deal with
the reality of his loss.
As soon as I
think that, he’s there in the room with me and he assures me it’s okay to get
rid of his things. Then he’s gone
again. Nevertheless, I feel good that
he’s given his okay about giving up his possessions which I can no longer
use. The kitchen is also disorganized,
with food still waiting to be unpacked and put away. Before I do that, I realize I have to go to
the bathroom. I’m surprised to see how clean
and organized it already is. It’s the
only room in the house ready to be lived in.
After I use the toilet, I decide to take a nice long shower. It feels so good.
The
appearance of her husband in the dream is an assurance to her that while he is
physically no longer in her life, with a single thought, he’s nevertheless
present and with her once again. Her
memories of him will reveal to her how he would have reacted to her situation
and what advice he would give under the circumstances. The kitchen symbolizes the area of her psyche
which receives the nourishment and support to sustain her physical, emotional
and psychological support. These
elements are already present in her life and just waiting for her organizing
decisions. As for the bathroom, the fact
that it’s already clean and organized suggests that she has already worked long
and hard to “cleanse” herself of superfluous toxins which might impede her
healthy state in life. In fact, she knows
when it’s time to rid herself of “waste” and recognizes when it’s time to
cleanse herself of any negative thoughts and feelings which are
counterproductive to her recovery. She’s
ready to feel good again.
Then as I go
through the house again, in my mind, I know what I have to do to get it to look
cozy and warm and welcoming. I go
outside and notice that the path to the house is cluttered. I stop to move aside the bigger pieces. When I turn around to study the house again,
I decide I really like it. It might need
a new paint job and repairs here and there, but basically, I love it. I’m feeling excited because I can envision
how nice and lovely my house will be once again.
And,
yes, this part of the dream is a confirmation to Jennifer that she already
knows how to get herself together again… how to be warm and welcoming to people
once more. She has already rid herself
of the clutter which has impeded her ability to rediscover herself, and she has
come to realize that she loves herself after all.
This
is a wonderful dream, assuring Jennifer that she’s on the way back to full
recovery… and, in fact, to an improved and more mature version of her original
self.
Congratulations,
Jennifer. I would say it’s time to
celebrate yourself.
